We recognize the human face in abstract things. We can create the image of a face using any material. Imagine a face made from wire, folded paper, straws, balloons, pieces of wood, wire netting, vegetables, old newspapers, geometric shapes, letters of the alphabet, car parts... etc. Imagine seeing a face through rippled glass, through the slats of a blind, through a bottle of water... all of these would distort the face, but it would still be recognizable as a face.
